What Should You Do With a Hot, Buzzing or Damaged Socket?
Stop using a socket or plug that is unusually hot, scorched, cracked, buzzing or crackling. Electrical Safety First specifically advises people not to ignore burn marks, arcing sounds, unexplained protective-device operation or electrical items that feel hot to the touch.
